Help
I have a couple of replacement butt stocks I want to finish in the Winchester red. I tried searching this topic to no avail and need help. Any suggestions as to where to get the fillers and stains to do this? I am not realy sure what I am looking for.
Thanks for any help
Tom

I'll give you my method and materials. I use Pilkington's pre 64 stain. After it has had a couple of days to dry, I soak in a heavy coat of Permalyn stock sealer. Put it up and let it dry  ( a week or more) Then I wet sand with the stock sealer and 400 wet or dry paper. Let it dry completly again and that take it down to the wood with fine Polishing pad (grey). Repeat until all the grain is filled (4 or 5 Times). When you get to the finish that you want polish with an extra fine polishing pad (White). This will give you a soft glowing finish that is in the wood not on top of it.

Brent is absolutely 100% correct. the stock oil from (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links) is great and is what you are looking for. I have finish 2 rifles and started on 2 more with that oil. If you follow the directions on the site, you will achieve what you are looking for.
