SmileyI have had great results applying BC's "Super Blue" cold blue using a small piece of White or Grey colored Scotch Brite polishing pad. I suspect it will work well with Oxpho Blue, and other cold blues also.

I usually affix a small piece of Brite to a popsicle stick with a hot glue gun (one piece on each end of stick does double duty). The Scotch Brite apparently works the metal surface over, and lets the Bluing bite in; blends in much better than steel wool in my experience. When done, I rinse out the Brite in water for future use.

I first found this idea on the web a few years ago, and it is also mentioned in one of Brownells Gunsmith Kinks Books. I'd about given up on cold blues before discovering the Scotch Brite trick. Try it!  You may like it! Joe Beary  8)

Today I found a forgotten bottle of Oxpho Cream formula that a friend had given me, and tried it with the Scotchbrite on some scope rings I was lapping for a customer. It worked very well, and gives a very pleasing gunmetal color as opposed to the Super Blue which I normally use, which gives a deep black color. Using the Scotchbrite really helped it to blend in for a unifrom coating.

Apparently it isn't necessary to wipe off the Oxpho Cream with water to kill the solution, as with Super Blue and some other liquids I've used, which is a plus.

I haven't used regular Oxpho in years, but I'm going to try the ScotchBrite with the liquid Oxpho when I get a bottle from Brownells next order. Think Spring!  Grin  Joe Beary
