This is a bit away from the question but, a few years ago my friend Dale53 told me to try Oxpho-Blue Creme from Brownells. I have at least eight other different blue solutions that work to some degree, some turn-out gray,brown, or black. Oxpho-Blue Creme produces a BLUE finish that I think make  these old rifles look best. Thanks to Dale--I now have no use for anyother bluing solution.    leadball

Paul,
When you use Oxpho blue, try this, clean the part/parts in HOT soapy water dry then rub with clorox bleach first, dry then use the Oxpho.

Asst;
      I'll try your cleaning method on my next barrel, I've used alcohol [non drinking type] with good results.  This Oxpho-Blue Creme can be applied so as to get the amount of blue a person wants.   leadball
