What kind of rolling block are you getting?  If it's one that you can get a spare breechblock for, I recommend getting a custom liner made instead of an insert.  Make a liner that slips into the barrel and is held in place with a teflon sleeve or several plastic collars.  Cut an extractor cut in it, and make a .22 rf extractor.  Put in a rimfire breechblock, and you now have a .22 rifle.  Can be changed over by removing two screws (pin keeper and extractor) and switching the breechblock and extractor and inserting or removing the liner.   

It's a lot easier to use than the insert.  The inserts have two basic styles:  Lee Shaver style that uses a cartridge holder to hold the .22 shell and transfer the cf firing pin strike to the rf case.  and (2) Dave Crossno style that fits into the chamber offset so the firing pin hits right and you use a screwdriver to pry out the spent casing.

The liner system works just like a dedicated .22 rifle while it's in.   

Cost on the inserts is about $150, cost to set up a dedicated liner system is up to about $300 depending on who does it and what parts, but it's a lot better to use.  If you have the ability to do the basic machine work yourself, you can build a liner system for about $125 worth of parts.

If you are ordering the rifle from Lone Star, talk to Dave about doing the work.  He would be best set up to do it at the time he makes the rifle, it's easy to set up a second breech block and extractor.   

If it is in .45 caliber, my opinion of the best way to mount the liner is to use 7/8 x 5/16 inch teflon tubing.  It fits perfectly over the standard redman/brownells liners, and slips snug into a .45 barrel.  A "c" clip in a groove in the liner at the front of the teflon sleeve holds it onto the liner.  McMaster Carr has the tubing, it's about $5 a foot, and 2 feet is all you need.  I turn a chamber sized case from steel, bore it out, solder in a liner, trim, crown, chamber, and cut an extractor slot.  Not a lot of work.  The rimfire breechblock is the hardest part.

To give credit where credit is due, this liner/breechblock idea isn't mine.  It was originated by Glenn Fewless, HST on here, who made one for himself and was kind enough to share the idea.  If Dave can't or won't do the work, talk to Glenn about doing it.  But tell him to not get to it before he does a project we're talking about for me!

Interesting idea to use a crossno liner with an extractor.  It would make it a lot more user friendly.  It just doesn't seem right to have to pry the shells out.  A rifle should kick them out by itself!

I'll look forward to hearing from you.  Ordered the Lilja barrel when we last emailed, took 12 weeks to come in, but it's here now when you find the time.  I dropped you a note yesterday about it.
