  I just saw and ad for Puff-Lon, and was considering  trying it for 45-70 loads with 4759 and 5744. Has anyone had any experience with it? Thanks, Joe S

I have never esed Puff-lon but my tests with 5744 indicated that I got smaller shot to shot diveations when the powder was not restricted in any way. I shot it with a wad on the powder, With a wad cream of wheat and a top wad and just a wad at the mouth of the case to stop powder spill. All loads were shot on the same day. To my suprise the lowest diveations over the chronograph were when there was a wad on the mouth of the case and the powder was loose.

Very Interesting! So far, my experiments show a slight improvement with a 1/4 sheet of toilet paper wad, but the improvement was not dramatic.  Havent tried cream of wheat but I just bought some for my cap and ball revolver so I might as well try it.  The toilet paper is time consuming, so if I can find something that is more convenient to work with and results in better groups, I'd like to try it.   This might sound dumb but when I was a kid the old geezer who got me started used wads cut from white faced hornets nests he gathered in the fall.I have never done this.Has anyone else ever seen this?

I have actually used Puff-Lon. It is a prepartion of beads
I could not tell a lot of difference in using it but I did not compare groups.  How to use.. After charging with powder
you fill the case up t the rim with Puff-Lon then compress the additive as you seat the bullet. It supposedly give better groups and a cleaner barrel. On the other hand, using 4759 or 5744 both are not position sensitive and supposedly do not require fillers. Puff-Lon is not inexpensive, it does require an extra step in loading process ,and it does case a bit of a flim of the beads on you gun after shooting.I may buy some more later to use with 4198. I have had problems with 4198 causing more carbon residue. Now I am using black powder.
