Guys,

I've been working this winter on a Remington rollingblock for BPCR Silhouette competition.  Glenn Fewless smithed the action, and did a beautiful sporting conversion on an old military action.  He also fit the 32", Green Mountain barrel, and chambered it for the good ol' .45-2.1", then hand polished the action and barrel.  I fit up a straight grip sporting stock set in fancy English walnut, complete with checkered steel buttplate and steel nosecap, and then our own Ken Hurst got the action for some scratchin'.

Well, Ken phoned me this weekend and said he had just emailed some photos of the finished engraving, and WOW, is it something!  To say I'm pleased with Ken's work is an understatement...I asked for "something tasteful", and got a beautiful piece of art!

Now that's the kind of engraving I like. Tasteful! Not ostentatious! Hard to tell on my screen but is that a little gold inlay around the outside edges?

  Would you post a picture of the assembled gun when you get it put together? I'd like to see it!

Not ostentatious????!!!

I expect he will be showing up at the matches in a big pink Caddy wearing a long flashy coat with a  white Panama hat and  all sort of gold jewelry and such. Probably platform shoes.

Pete, there is a gold border around the panels, and some on the triggerguard as well.  Very hard to make it show up.  You bet I'll post some more pictures when it's all finished!

Glenn, them's WINGTIPS, not platforms...and a real by-gosh Stetson Fedora, not a panama hat...

I have to say that you have one of the finest examples of a Roller that I ever hope to see. I am major fans of both Glenn Fewless (metal work) and Ken Hurst (engraving) and this piece is a credit to their work. IMHO you have picked the best to do your work.

After that action is finished (blue?) the gold band will really set it off.

I have never owned a Roller for BPCR but HAVE shot them (my BPCR's were first a 75" Sharps and then later a Browning) and I am a big fan of the rollers for BPCR Silhouette.

Congratulations! We'll ALL want to see the finished rifle.

Mr. Dale,

The current plan for metal finish is a carbonia blue for the frame, color-case on the triggerguard, block, and hammer, and small parts/screws nitre blued.  The barrel is already rust blued, and the stock is finished, awaiting final assembly.

Guys, she's DONE!  Here are some pictures of the freshly assembled rifle...rust blued barrel, carbonia blued frame (to highlight the engraving), color case on the triggerguard/block/hammer/forend tip and buttplate, nitre blued screws.  Metal finishing done by Classic Guns Inc., of Beecher Illinois.
