I prefer the slimmer profileof the no. 3 lever; what would be involved in replacing the No. 1 lever with theNo. 3 style?

Don,
It is not to hard to do. The thing that you have to do is to drill or grind a small hole for the detent that holds the lever in place. I have done it to put a schuetzen lever that was made from a #3 lever on my Ruger #1 and it works grreat.

I had built a Ruger #3 with the #1 buttstock. Action dimensions are nearly the same. Problem I ran into with the #3 lever on a #1 stock was that it gave a very funny feel to the lever. The #3 lever will almost touch the curve of the stock unless it is rebent. The gun builder did a neat trick. He cut off the end and rewelded it to the bottom curve of the trigger guard. Looks really nice.
