SAAMI, the Sporting Arms & Ammunition Manufacturer's Institute, sets specs for currently produced ammo and chamber dimensions.  Their website for official drawings of both chambers and cartridges is (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links); This does not include obsolete cartridges for which official specifications never existed.   

To quote from their website:   

"The Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers' Institute (SAAMI) is an association of the nation's leading manufacturers of firearms, ammunition and components. SAAMI was founded in 1926 at the request of the federal government and tasked with:

Jerry Cleave has a wonderful design for a Ballard. But he told me after building mine he'd never build another. Just too labor intensive.

Here is a breech seater design for Ballards. It's not TOO complex to make and works great. I've been using one for years.
I find it particularly handy because it can be used on a rifle with either a tang sight or scope.

I also bought a half dozen of those cast hooks from someone here on ASSRA years ago, and built one breech seater. I saved another, which is misplaced somewhere here in my gun room, yet to be found. Gave away the others to friends. 
Mine is like Randy's, except all one unit, not two pieces.
