WTB Remington #2

I'm looking for a nice, tight, clean #2 in 22rim with a good bore and I've been looking for a long time. I want to use this in sporter rifle competition as well as to give my 32 and 38 a baby brother. It will be shot a lot. There has to be one in the back of someone's safe that doesn't get used much anymore so take it out and restore peace and happiness to the realm. Thanks

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

How does he send pictures of something he wants to buy and doesn't have yet?

A nice #2 is the easy part.  A great bore is the difficult feature.  Typically it means a liner has or will be installed.  I will look at a some of mine, however it will most likely require an FFL.

Thanks Ken, In my experience a liner often goes with the territory and it is no problem for me. Neither is an FFL, we do what we have to do.

Dumb but happy, how do you tell the difference between a 1 1/2 and a 2?  I have a rifle that I think is a # 1 1/2 that I bought online thinking it was a 22 rf as advertised but ended up being a 25 rf.  I sent it off to Curt and he installed a top of the line 22 liner with match chamber and worked on the sight.  It was one of his last projects.  In the meantime I had cataract surgery and can't see the sights very good.  The front sight has two aiming points, one on top of the tunnel.  The patent dates are on the left side of the receiver in an arc and the last date is 1873 as I recall.  The receiver is about 1" thick and is octagon shaped.  I will post pictures tomorrow as it is raining to hard for me to go out to the safe in the garage.  Tom

Tom,
I don’t know anything about a 1 1/2, but a #2 is a one of a kind and easily recognizable by the rear of the frame, it is curved as shown in this picture.

Here is the #1 1/2
Notice the curved line on the #2 where the action meets the stock wrist.  Now see the straight line where the action meets the wrist wood on the #1 1/2.

This action is significantly larger as well, something hard to judge in many photos.

Regarding the availability of a #2 in .22rf.  I went through a safe the other night.  Located a complete original #2 late production (REMINGTON ARMS CO) barrel stamp is the correct 22.  The bore is excellent crisp, bright, beautiful.  The outside of the barrel is at best 20% blue and thin at that.  It screams "liner". Problem is that there is no telltale ring on the muzzle. The muzzle is the same thin gray as the rest of the barrel.  Same for the breech.  If or whomever put the liner in, they were a master at disguise.  Or the original bore has had the very best of optimum care its entire life.   C&R or FFL.  $750 plus shipping.
Shipping will vary by parcel size, weight, and zip code.  I can ship by either UPS or USPS.
