It is with heavy heart that I share the news of the passing of Mr. Bill "Billy" Benner of North Carolina.  Bill was a larger than life man, well known single shot gunsmith, and gun builder.  He was 'the go to person' for making  the complex springs in British double rifles, single shots etc.  His book on the Rolling Block Shotguns was just released shortly before his death.  I received a phone call from his daughter this morning. She advised he was not feeling well, went to the hospital and died unexpectedly.  Bill photographed and made notes on virtually all of the firearms he repaired over some 60 plus years of working with them.  He was a treasure trove of information which he shared willingly.  His passing is another great loss for the antique and vintage firearms community.
