Mould Problem

A few years ago I suffered a catastrophic house fire in which I lost just about everything. Most of my moulds were recovered from the ashes and other than the handles being burned off they work just fine. One however [210grn 35 cal] leaves a flashing line when casting which is a pain in the butt because I have to remove the flashing before I can seat a gas check squarely. I've tried everything that I can think of but no dice. Any suggestions?

Post a pic of the mold edge on while being tightly closed in front of a bright light. Best way to get ideas.

It might have warped in the intense heat of the fire. You might be able to adjust the alignment pins to get it to close properly, but my bet is it's toast...

Consider taking a piece of FINE sandpaper on a FLAT sheet (like glass) and truing up the mating surfaces.

Well the mold is well annealed now. I would put the blocks in a Kurt type milling vise and squeeze them together versus sanding to true up which throws every thing off.

Try different handles, if you haven’t already

How bad is the flash? Is it this bad?

You've probably tried it, but just in case...  I have one Lyman mold that I had a heck of a time with because it has over sized vent lines.  I found that if I cast with a half full ladle it puts less pressure on the lead and doesn't make fins.
