Been thinking of rebarreling a Ruger No.1 to 338 Lapua or 30 Rensi. Can I use any No.1 action without having to modify the block and block movement or should I find one in 416 Rigby as a donor?

Gabwood, the 338 Lapua is known as a super accurate long range cartridge. More than likely, without a lot of tinkering on forend and trigger, the #1 is not. At least, that's the way I hear it. My 200 year 7 Mag required some forend work and some luck to get reasonable hunting accuracy with the best loads I eventually was able to develop. I wish you the best.

Ruger used various barrel makers early on, but finally started making their own with much better accuracy. I believe they are hammer forging them. A call to Ruger should get a better than I believe answer.

At $ 4-10 bucks A pop to shoot....you have more $$$ than me ! I like that a 32-20 can be shot three times for the price of one 6PPC load.
May the Bullet Gods be with you.......

Yeah, even Mother AI is stumped. The closest Google AI can come is a Remington cartridge, .30 Remington AR, designed to fit the AR-15 platform. Quite a difference from the big fat nasty .338 Lapua.

One interesting thing that I found in a search is that in Chinese rensi means "a person's death", what a cute name for a cartridge. It seems that each week we are blessed with a new designer cartridge that doesn't do anything more than a dozen others but that turns the wheels of commerce. My entry into the field was a rimmed 50 BMG necked up to 70 caliber but SAMMI wouldn't let me call it a 50/70 so I dropped it.

Yours is an understatement
Midway $2.90 a round for 6PPC
32/20 (32WCF), .05c Lead.... primer .07c... Powder .07c = $0.19
Fun to shoot... Priceless
20 -- 32-20's for the price of one 6PPC

Up until Marlin moved from New Haven to North Haven they sold barrels to Ruger. Marlin got too busy and stopped selling Ruger barrels. I think that move was around 1975?

I believe this is what he is referring to. Out of my interest range. Charlie
The 30 Rensi is a custom wildcat rifle cartridge made by necking down the .338 Lapua Magnum casing to fire a .30-caliber bullet.
Key Details
• Parent Case: Based on the large-capacity .338 Lapua Magnum case.
• Origin: Developed around a project funded by Sam Rensi (a former Vice President at Remington) at Remington's research department in Ilion, New York, and covered in Tactical Shooter magazine in 2000.
• Status: It is a rare wildcat/experimental design rather than a mass-produced commercial cartridge.

I think there is a pretty good reason it remains this way. I once had an acquaintance with a .30-378 Weatherby in a custom rifle. I shot it a (very) few times and had enough. I'm not recoil sensitive to any degree, and my .375 H&H and .300 Win are reasonable. Not that Weatherby round!
In a really heavy (sniper) rifle one might manage, but in a Ruger 1 it would be certain trouble- and heaven forbid needing a second shot in an emergency.

Marlin moved to the North Haven location in '68.
I worked there in the Repair/Service Dept in '73
Part of the reason Marlin stopped supplying Ruger with bbls was that Marlin started making only the Micro-Groove style.
They did not want to supply them to Ruger with MGroove rifling.
The 'older' Ballard style rifling was discontinued even for use on the Glenfield and Big Box Store brands.
