scope/offhand shooting

Good afternoon to all, this is my first post, I'm a new member and very happy to be part of the community. I plan to shoot offhand at each match (that I can attend) in the upcoming '27 season. Q: Which is the preferred scope, power and reticle type (dot? how large?) for offhand. I'll be shooting a CPA, w/CPA Schuetzen stock, 32-40.

When i got into the game, my lyman 20x bounced around too much, so I used my MVA 6x off my silhouette rifle. My technique has improved considerably over the last 3 years and I now use a unertl 16x with a floating center dot

My first SS scope was a Leuplod 6 1/2 x 20.

I didn't use the 6 1/2 very long, at all.

If you don't have any OH target experience at all a 6x might be a good start. I came from open sight muzzle loading so, I did have OH experience.

If you do have experience, I'd start at 10-12x and go up from there. My last OH scope was a 15x and I liked it.

When I started offhand competition I made the common mistake of using a far too powerful scope. I started with a 20x but all that it did was to amplify my mistakes. I switched to a 6x and my shooting improved dramatically. After my technique became solidified and my experience grew I went up to a 15x which I use today with good results.

My first full Schuetzen high comb hook plate palm rest 14 lbs used a 20x. worked well but I was moving from HIgh Power silhouette lighter rifle limited by rule stock and more recoil used 20x with no problem

Today all my offhand is iron sight when using scopes to practice its a 12x 5x & 2 1/2x lighter the rifle less power Doubt if I could use 20 again without a lot of practice
