1885 Highwalls converted to rimless

I was just checking out rifles on Gunsinternational and saw a HW in 6mm Remington built on an early action and also a 257 Roberts but no indication of what year it was.  Both were works of art and the price showed it!  My question is what does it take to convert an 1885 to work with a rimless cartridge.  I know winchester made a few in 30-06 for match work.  If it is not to difficult I would think in the heyday of wildcatting that more would have been converted and chambered for varmint shooting.  As always, dumb but happy.  Tom   Undecided

Rimless extracter is relitively easy. I've built 15-20 of them. Drill smallhole for straight wire spring with small bend at end that moves extractor to the right to snap over rim & engage shell. If your interested pm me & i will take some photos. Mick

Jack,
No it's not, I believe Mick has done more than a few.  Maybe not a job for the less equipped.   I've done a couple and no desire to do more but I'm not interested in rimless features in a single shot.  I've pulled a lot of my own toenails that were ingrown and infected but I don't forward to the process, the extractor mod is not quite as intense as that,  Smiley Cheesy so if the urge hit me again I might question Mick for his method.
The attached pdf file came to me via the ASSRA archives.  Drawing #1 is the process I used previously.

The first two HW's I owned back in the dark ages of the late 70's-1980-ish were both varmint conversions built by Jerry Gebby in the late 30's-40's. One was an R2 Lovell and the other was a .22 Varminter (.22-250). I don't recall the Varminter hiccuping ever and I also recall the extractor was engineered like as described above. (But truth be told it was the R2 Lovell rifle that really set me on the path of single shot-ery. That one and a .219 Donaldson Wasp built by an unknown smith, but I digress. Pennsylvania groundhogs hated those rifles with a passion.)

No prairie dogs or woodchucks in these here parts. I won a 219 Zipper high wall once.  It had only 1 bid on Gun Broker at $800. I bid the next increment at $805 and forgot all about it. Later that Saturday afternoon I had the worst pain in my right shoulder blade that had started when I woke up. I figured I had slept wrong. I finally went to the local drop in clinic and was eventually diagnosed with a Pulmonary embolism. As I was entering the hospital emergency room my phone sounded off with a message indicating that I had won the rifle. I evidently survived the blood clot I believe but couldn’t find a use for that caliber and sold the rifle.
