What is 40-70 straight Shiloh ?  We have auctions for 40-70 Sharps straight brass made from 30-40 Krag.  I am unfamiliar with the Shiloh version.

I think that the Shiloh version has a thinner rim than original cases.

I thought Shiloh used 405 brass ran through a 40-70 sizing die.

The Shiloh was in parentheses to indicate it was for one of their guns. The original Sharps rifles use the thicker rims.

I understood this.  So are you looking for brass marked Shiloh 40-70?

No. Any that will work will do including the various stretched cases like .303 British, .30-40 Krag or the .405 Winchester

We can also make them from 405 WCF for you if you wish, and we barter.

Some of the .40-70 rifles built by Shiloh had chambers tight enough that the .405 Hornady brass wouldn't chamber a 0.408" bullet because of the neck thickness.  I had a Roller built chamber ed specifically for the Hornady brass.  I'm not certain if/when they may have changed.  It might be a good idea to call Kirk with your serial number and get the straight story.

I have a CSA 40-70 that was bought new in 2010.
When I ordered it I told CSA that I’d be using Hornady 405 Winch. cases. All I did was trim the length and load them. I clean, anneal and trim every fall. I’ve been shooting the same (150) cases every year, using BP only.

I have another (150) of those cases, new in the boxes. They will be included with my rifle and a whole bunch of BP items when I list the rifle for sale.

Time to let someone else enjoy this nice rifle, as my shooting interests have changed and I’m leaving the BP game.

The Hornady 405 brass is too thick for the Shiloh chamber and will need to be neck turned. I know, I have a Shiloh and some 405 cases prepped.

What brand of brass ?  What diameter bullet ?  What was the case neck wall thickness required for free chambering?

After I posted I saw that you were referring to Hornady brass.   I have both Hornady and Bertram 405 brass so will have to check neck wall thickness to see if there is a difference.
