Crazy trapdoor firing pin

Sold a trapdoor with the 78 rear sight to a friend that wanted one. I probably shot it a couple of times, cleaned up and put away. He said the firing pin was sticking and it was in multiple pieces. 🤯

Bought a replacement and and he sent this picture. Thought I would share. Sometimes I wonder what people think. LOL

Wow! That's broken all to pieces!

Multiple pieces. That would be correct.

I've seen one that broke at the spot where the diameter changed from large to small but I've never seen a broken tip. I'd say that one had a lot of dry firing in it's history and someone rewelded the tip on it. On the plus side trapdoor firing pins are cheap and plentiful. Try s&s firearms in NY they have all kinds of trapdoor parts.

The Regimental Quartermaster sent one out quickly for less than $30.

My friend had an 83 with a several piece broken pin like that. I discovered it when I cleaned it for him and replaced it. The tip itself wasn't broken and it was still working but a little wonky.
