serrifile

Is anybody familiar with Serrifile? Apparently Bo Clerke built some guns under this name in Lancaster, California. My specific interest is in the single shot rifles. There was a close copy of the Winchester High Wall (parts interchange) and one that resembles the Sharps Borchardt. I just traded into one of these hammerless rifles. It's missing some parts: the forearm and what appears to be a plunger arrangement that screws into the front of the receiver to hold the lever open and closed.

The barrel is a 28" heavy octagon in 32-40, probably of another manufacturer. It's marked 4 20 91 (date?) and JOM004. It has scope bases for an externally adjusted target scope and no sights.

Thanks for any info.

I have 2 of the hammer models. If I remember right, the striker model had trigger issues.

Schuetzen Bob knew Bo a lot better than me. He may have better info on the striker model.

My experience with Serrifile was that Bo Clerke made and sold a line of Winchester parts, levers, buttplates, double set triggers, etc. Bo made rifles under the Serrifile name in his shop at Lancaster California. The complaints that I heard were that some of his rifles had parts that weren’t properly heat treated. I built up a 22 on a winder musket action with Bo’s parts and I still use it. In the Nov-Dec 2023 issue of the Single Shot Rifle Journal, there’s an article on Bo Clerke.

Thanks for the information, it all helps. What I'd like to find out is: what is my action missing? If it is a spring and plunger arrangement, it can probably be duplicated.

This rifle was complete at one time and has been fired. I would only load low pressure ammunition so hopefully it is safe. The trigger has adjustment screws, I'll figure out what each does. If there are problems, at least now it won't be a surprise.

Thanks frnkeore and Scheutzenbob.

Larry

Larry,

This is a pic of my winder musket with Bo Clerke Serrifile triggers, as I recall I had to harden the surfaces, but these triggers are excellent and I've used them for many years.
