Lyman #7

I have a Lyman #7 windage adjustable front sight. It has 2 different apertures that are changed by laying one down by pushing it forward and the other is put into position by pushing it rearward. Has anyone seen a Lyman #7 that has an aperture and a post?

Thank You
A. J. Palik

Mine has an aperture and a post. Never knew some had two apertures. Neat!

I have three of them with aperture and post setup, but never seen one with two apertures? That's pretty cool!

Looks like someone might have soldered that thicker aperture onto the original post. Hard to tell from the picture/angle, but that might explain your sight's "uniqueness"

You may be correct.

Tough to find, and very expensive!

I paid 250 bucks for mine about 30 years ago.

All the traditional windgauge globe sights from the golden era are better sights. The Lyman fixed aperture is a little bit on the small side for the IS German ring target.

So, what was the intended application for the #7? Many years ago when a friend gave me the one pictured earlier we thought it fit the 1893 (38-55). Were we wrong and was it intended for a more target application?

Thank you,
Charles

They were for target shooting, giving the shooter a choice of peep or post depending on what worked best for him. They came in several dovetail widths for whatever the gun was. So not gun specific, just dovetail specific. I have one on a Hepburn that's .467" dovetail. Most are .375" dovetail.
