are you breech seating or fixed ?   
i will be shooting fixed for offhand. but .333 bullet will not fit in 32-40 case.  have ad in for breech seater.

I'm breech seating. No fixed ammo for me. I see no advantage with fixed ammo in a Schuetzen match where you have plenty of time to make your shots. Fixed ammo complicates things. And it's not as accurate as when breech seating. 

My rifles groove diameter is .340. I'm not going to jump through hoops to make fixed ammo. Not worth the effort.

I made up two breech seaters. One for use when using a scope and the other for when using iron sights.

i breech seat most of my other rifles, so need to make me something for the Ballard.

A wood dowel in a case will work fine as long as you're not trying to force a hard oversize bullet into the bore.
