What diameter bullets does it cast in a soft alloy? Interested in acquiring it based on the answer! (Looking for .257+, preferably .258 or a skinch more.)

I guess the guideline on something like this is to buy it, figure out a way to cast it, measure it and if too small resell it with complete information.

I will comment.

We have a guy has something for sale for a great price (I was tempted, myself).

One guy wants a custom fitting to try it out and see if it looks good on him.  He doesn't commit, wants to window shop for a bit first.

Another guy recognizes the great buy, very politely says he'll take it if it's not otherwise sold, giving the opportunity for the first guy to step up and just commit.

The seller, who obviously just wants to sell, sells it to the guy that actually wants it and is willing to buy.

This seller operates just exactly as I do.  A willing buyer that wants it now, and will pay, trumps every looker that will take it someday if they decide it's right for them.  Especially if the looker wants more information that would require me to cast a bullet with the mold.  Adding an hour or so to the sale time, or 15 minutes if I was coincidentally going to be casting anyway.

I can't fault the seller for selling to a willing buyer.  The only thing I might have done, is post "Buyer, 2, it is yours pending a reply from Buyer 1.  Buyer 1, I have no clue what size it casts, do you want it or should I go to buyer 2?  If I don't hear back by noon, it's sold to buyer 2".

Reasonable. I would have jumped on it as is if I didn't already have a similar mold. You can never have enough molds, especially at a good price.

And that's the way I would have handled it. Nothing wrong with a second person saying they'll take it if the first doesn't take it. And the seller has a sure thing if that happens.

Complete and utter bullshit!!! Don't be obtuse.

I wasn't asking for a "custom fit And I sure as hell wasn't "window shopping". Go back and read my reply (after first maybe taking a remedial reading comprehension skills course). I merely queried as to what fucking size the bullets are that drop from the mold. Pending the answer A) "such and such size" or B) "I don't know and I'm not inclined to find out what size" would've taken, like ten seconds, and I could've made a declaration of intent or no intent to buy in, like, another ten seconds. A perfectly normal way of conducting a transaction - a perfectly acceptable question before laying out $50 for an unseen bullet mold. ($50 that comes fairly dear to somebody living on Social Security, by the way.)

My reaction to being stiffed was polite and mildly humorous, I thought, and was willing to let it go until aspersions were cast by this smartass.

I've bought a helluva lot of stuff here in the classifieds over the years and nobody I've dealt with can accuse me of being anything but forthright nor ever dilatory in making payments. So yes, I feel more than a little disappointed both with the seller and the buttinski who jumped the line and was rewarded for it - and this fellow's reaction.

There, I said it publicly, through a mouth that has zero filters these days due to intensive chemotherapy, side effects as some here may attest to. Sorry if ya don't like it.

Good day. It'll be a while before I open my wallet here in these classifieds again.

Respectfully, I have to disagree.  Your seem to be suggesting that with ANY item that someone post for sale  is reserved until any and all questions are answered, pictures delivered and a decision is made. Therefore you should immediately ask any question and call dibbs and decide later.
IMHO a " I'll take it ", without any qualifying questions is the end of the story.

And why not wait until any and all questions are answered by the seller??? Where's the harm in that? (Unless the seller is dilatory or uncaring to reply, I suppose.) Best to just throw money away and assume/hope for the best that it fits your needs? I don't think so. Is that how you conduct business every where else? Do you waltz into a car dealership and point at any car and say I'll take it without asking at least a couple questions? Would you buy a knife on line without at least asking what steel the blade is or what material the scales are? I think not, and the analogy fits here the same way no matter the scale of the purchase. (And if one doesn't ask those kinds of questions then one is letting himself open to a pretty fair degree of a chance for disappointment.) Edit to add: especially when dealing with old Ideal molds which we all know can produce diameters all over the map.

It has galled me over the years to witness the behavior of line jumpers here and on many other forums. It would seem to be normal behavior in some quarters. I've held my counsel about it until now when I've had it happen to me.

I won't argue with you, and I can see how, as a buyer, you would like to know exactly what you are buying, and would like to have first dibs on the item until you're sure it's what you want.  It's disappointing when you see a great bargain, and it escapes you before you are able to make sure it really is the bargain you want/need.

Unfortunately, as a seller, it really sucks to have people that are often tire kickers wanting to know more and more details about an item you would just like to have gone and have grossly underpriced just so it will go away without effort.

I often sell things as is, no info, good price just so I don't have to measure, clean, take good pictures.  I had a case of that here in the classifieds a year or so ago.  I had an orignal #4 winchester barrel with a dirty bore.  I put it up cheap, as is.  Everybody wanted to know bore condition.  I withdrew it, cleaned it, found it was pristine, sold for $300 more ebay.

It's impossible to reconcile those two extremes in a way that will make everyone happy.

The first "I'll take it" on this form wins. Not PM's not questions while someone makes up their mind. That is how I do it as a seller and I see most on this form do it as well. If you are not committed you loose out.

And I'll respectfully disagree with you too.
If I post "I'll take it, PM sent, please send me pictures" (Or details) Then I've said I'll want to buy it, but I want to see what I'm buying. I have no problem if others say "Put me down for 2nd, 3rd, etc.", but nobody should jump in front of me simply because they say they'll take it and don't need pictures. The seller knows he has those other people to sell to, so he's not going to miss the sale if the pictures don't match the description and the first person passes. And the 2nd still gets it as he wanted So just posting Ill take it after someone else has said they would, but wants pictures or details is rude in my book.
If you were at a gun show and saw someone looking at an item for sale, and discussing price would you jump in and tell the seller "I'll take it?" Might get smacked in the nose for things like that.

I was walking around with a nice piece at a gun show and one of the table owners asked me if he could see what I was carrying. He looked at it and asked my price and I told him and he was immediately trying to get me to come down to a lower price. Of course that's not untypical of any firearm sale. A guy standing next to me to asked if he could see the rifle and I showed it to him and he said "I'll take it for that". Guess who got the rifle? Everybody has their ideas of how we should conduct a sale but it's always been the first I'll take it that counts with me. Holding up a sale by asking to see more pictures or trying to negotiate is rude to me while somebody is there ready to buy at your price. Just my take and I know it will differ from a lot of people.

I don't think that's quite the same thing as I described.
I've been at shows and watched a seller and buyer negotiating and the buyer couldn't get the price down. I didn't jump in and tell the seller I'd buy it, but as soon as the buyer put it down I picked it up and said I'd take it for the last price the seller quoted.
Had I jumped in and got in the middle of the deal and taken it before the buyer gave up I'd feel I would be being rude stepping in.

I'll be the odd man out here, on the issue of not getting in the middle of a buyer trying to lowball a seller.

I buy estates.  Many are gun/reloading/knife estates.

Something I run into commonly is a widow selling her husbands stuff or a daughter selling her dads.  Very, very often there's a "good friend" of the deceased negotiating to buy some of the collection, usually the best, most valuable pieces.

I OFTEN interject myself into those transactons, and just clearly say "THESE ARE WORTH A LOT MORE THAN YOU'RE BEING OFFERED.  I'll pay real value, give you a written bid that is itemized so you can compare, and I'll take them all, not just the cream of the crop".  The "friends" are sometimes very, very angry.  But, I get a lot of these estates, get a lot of referrals from the sellers, and make a reasonable profit on them, while acting fairly.

Any time I see a Great Negotiator trying to take advantage of a naive seller, I have no compunction in making a fair offer to compete.

As a seller, I try to set my prices at a fair market value.  I hold firm at that, and don't negotiate price.  Then, the less time it takes to make a sale, the better the return on my time.  I have a set policy on my ebay and gunbroker sales. Two questions, okay.  Three, you're out.   If a buyer askes a question that is not covered in my description or the photos, I politely answer it.  If they ask a clarification question after that, I'll answer that.  If they start using targeted questions to make the item look bad (common lowballer tactic), I don't reply and block them.  If a looker continues to ask questions like "is that a rust spot I see?  Is it stained on the left side?  It looks like it has a slight burr?", I politely reply "It appears that you're looking for a perfect item that needs to suit your tastes exactly.  I am interested in happy buyers, that will be pleased with their item.  Since you are already not happy about the item BEFORE you have purchased it, you will not be pleased with it after you purchase it.  Please find another item that is exactly as you want it, and do not buy my item".  Then, if I can, I block them from bidding/buying.  Sometimes they get quite angry and find ways to message me to express that.  But, I genuinely believe that we're both happier not doing business.

All you had to do in your initial post was to unconditionally say " I'll take it", end of story.  Now, even though you still don't know anything else about it besides what the seller originally posted your acting like you called dibs on the front seat while at the same time acting like I committed a capital offense .
I have the same information you have and made a clean, easy deal for the seller.  You on the other hand wanted him to jump through hoops before you made a final decision.  Good grief, it was $65 to your door.  Take a chance once in a while or don't play.  Real estate and other business deals often get multiple full price offers the seller has to sort through.  A cash deal without qualifications as is beats a contingency deal EVERY time.
Go back and read your original offer and mine.

I don't see it that way.  Clear selling rules versus friendly aren't mutually exclusive.  There was nothing hostile or unfriendly about the initial sale in this thread.  The ultimate buyer very politely allowed the seller (and other buyer) an opportunity to say "I'll take it unconditionally" or "I'm working out details with another seller".

I have myself more than once as a buyer, deferred to someone that wanted it after me, that expressed that they would like to have it.  And seen others do the same.

Where I see these disagreements rising is when something is very much underpriced, and people feel slighted if they aren't the one that gets the bargain.  It gets worse when someone that wants a bargain, but doesn't want to commit, wants to tie up the item for themselves by asking questions, to make sure the bargain is as good as it looks before they commit.  And then gets butthurt when it gets sold to someone else.  Somehow, the greed in us, brings out the worst in us.  Politeness in that case could take the form of saying "I'd like to know the diameter this casts as, but feel free to sell to someone else if you don't want to hold it".  Or a conditional:  "I'll definitely buy it if you know it casts at .323 to .324".

When things are priced at market, where a person can easily buy it somewhere else for that amount, I see a lot of good natured comments back and forth like :  "Thanks, Jack, glad you bought that highwall.  I don't need another and you saved me money."

If the mold in this particular case had been priced at $250, there would have been no dispute about people asking for pictures, measurements, etc.  It's the perceived loss of the bargain that brought out the resentment.

Dave,
Did I buy another high wall? What caliber?  Don’t tell Joe!

People who think they know everything are a great annoyance to those of us who do.

I talk a lot, and talks cheap.  But, I'll put my money where my mouth is.

As a friendly collegiate gesture, I'll make the following offer to the offended party only:

I have a 25 caliber mold, Dave Mos.  I don't know what it casts, haven't cast with it.  A member here kindly sold it to me for a great price.  I'll pass it on to Gnoahhh for the same price.  $135 plus $10 to ship it.  If you know Mos molds, this is a very good bargain.

To be clear, my terms are:  A public "I'll take it" here, without conditions buys it.  AND, it is for sale to no-one else, just Gnoahhh.

Guys, this issue is an unfortunate issue.  We (who were not directly involved) really should not "pile on with comments."

In the big picture, this is just a simple object.  Lets not get upset or upset others by adding our own 2 cents.

I have perhaps won and sold items at auction that I maybe I shouldn't have and lost items that I would have liked.  I would not appreciate comments from others.
