Maynard sight options

The rifle currently has the tang sight with sliding peep. Kind of a pain to adjust, but I have difficulty seeing through it. Might be workable with an eye cup. I would like to replace it.

I have thought about the rack and pinion style sights, but wonder how course the adjustment is? 

Windage would be a plus since the front sight does in have it. Replacing both front and rear is an option.

What all is out there for a Maynard?
I could not find anything being reproduced.

Didn't they have a later screw tang sight for the 16s?

Yes,there were more options in the later years. Some from other manufacturers for certain in the front, where an adapter was used in the dovetail. 

I’m not sure if say a Remington staff could just be used in the Maynard base. But Ive seen where it looks like that has been done.  I have an early stevens basic H style sight that is the right width to fit the base. 

Just kind of wondering what to look for.

An MVA base for the Sharps Borchardt will fit your Maynard. The screw spacing is the same as a Maynard. Take a look at all the MVA sights and order one with the Borchardt base. The Soule type may need a taller front sight. The original Maynard screws will work with the base. If not I have the correct screws which are an #8-30 thread. You may need to remove the sight spring from under the top tang for the new one to work properly.

Other sights can be made to work but you will need a special base made up.

Todd,
I've made a few of the rack and pinion sights, while novel, they are a bit coarse and if you write your numbers down like you're supposed to - not an issue.  If you think you'll remember a setting and let go of the knob, it gets away from you quick...  
After making 50 plus tang sights over the years, I've turned into a MVA snob, they're tough to beat.  I shot next to JC at the Hamilton match and we compared more than a few notes about sights, his products are really good and still getting better.
