	For Sale: Ballard Hammerless Striker Block 2-Barrel Rifle Please read the following carefully: Action: The action looks to be a cast action with a hammerless breech block and Pope-style lever. The action looks like it has been welded in both corners behind the breech block. Hammerless Breech Block: I do not know who made this. The breech block doesn't have any maker's name or stamps. The set triggers work fine when out of the action, but when in the action, the set trigger will not set and the front trigger will also not trip the sear. Barrels: The barrel on the rifle in the photos is a 24-inch Winchester barrel that has been relined and chambered for the .25-20 SS cartridge. The bore is very good. The second barrel is an unknown 28-inch barrel that has been relined and chambered for .32-40. The bore is good to very-good. This barrel may be responsible for those cracks behind the breech block. Stocks: The buttstock is an original Ballard buttstock with cracks behind the action. The buttplate has old repairs on the bottom hook. The forearm is a modified Winchester forearm whose inletting is slightly wider than the barrel on the rifle. This rifle has possibilities and may be OK to use with the .25-20 SS barrel. A lot of shooters have a strong opinion on what is acceptable for a cast action, based on "gut instinct." Marlin did make a few Ballard rifles in .32-40 using cast actions. If you can work out the trigger issue, it may be fine with a standard or reduced load. Or use the parts to start a new or finish an existing project. 	The reasons that I was asking if it's a Brown Mfg: 1. The script looks to me like it may say that. 2. It has square threads. JM Marlins have V threads. 3. it has a lug, under the frame for the Brown and very early JM to hold the lever and is a thick side like the first JM's. Things my #4xx JM Marlin has.
