Sharing a bit more about my No 2 Ballard

Well, I got some .32 Colt cartridges in today and also have raw brass coming in soon.  Since I found the brass, I won't be pulling the bullets on this nice box of Western .32 LC cartridges.  They'll be going on the mantle with the other old ammo.

Anyhoo!  It was sure darn nice to have a bullet that fit the chamber even if the projectile is too small. (these are the POST heeled .32 LC that precedes the .32 New Service) 

I wanted to show you guys just a few pics of the gun in general.  It was my lucky charm (my Girlfriend) who spotted this about two years ago at the Phoenix SAR show in December.  Even though I knew I was probably gonna have a heck of a time making cartridges at this late stage, I just had to have this one.

The bore, as I have said, is pristine and, for the life of me, I cannot see that it was ever lined.  Who would line a gun to an obsolete round when going to .32 S&W is a no brainer due to the bore size being nearly identical.

Well, I thought I would show YOU GUYS the pics because if anyone can spot anything...it is going to be some of you folks.

The BORE....the bore is a bit dusty.  Had I cleaned it...it would have outshone the sun!  Okay, that is hyperbole...but only just!!!!

Wait!  One more!  The breech end!  Note the possible 150 years of the firing pin dragging across the lower part of the chamber.

Indeed. Bore dimensions can be all over the map with .32 RF/CF.

Yessir.  It's about .3105" Groove diameter.

Desertmoon, actually that groove in the bottom of the chamber rim is the standard Ballard firing pin retractor. The botton edge of the firing pin will be slightly beveled for smooth retraction.

Makes absolute sense!!!  Thank you!!!  It looked "natural to me" though I was surprised my firing pin looked so good.  It never occurred to me that the groove would be there on purpose.
