I am selling a Stevens 47 that was built buy C.C. Johnson. The rifle is in excellent condition. The original case colors are on the action. The double set triggers are crisp. According to Jerry Johnson the job card for the barrel stamped 3699 is as follows:

Fit barrel 27" 1 5/16" x 7/8"  .22-3000

This would have been the 99th job C.C. Johnson did in 1936.

IMO.

Unless you do all the work yourself, IMO It will cost a lot to replace that stock. 
CPA Buttstock -$160.00 * web site $$$ probably out of date - Treebone blank $425.00 plus hours of fitting / sanding / finishing.. 

If the shipper insured it that might cover it. However I'd bet they claim it wasn't packed properly.

If "Brian" is reputable he will return your $1,600.00 when you return what's left.

Anyone who doesn't ship in a hard shell foam filled rifle case is asking for problems. They are only about $50.00-75.00 on Amazon,

When I buy a nice rifle, I send the seller one of my bullet proof cases to ship the rifle to me. Yes, this costs me an extra amount to ship the empty case, but the savings in grief is worth it to me. 

I have a cardboard box that the hard sided rifle case fits in which also has a foam liner. This eliminates any outward appearance that it is a rifle. 

I know this doesn't help your current situation but it would help us all to know if Brian reacts responsibly. Of course there might be a completely legitimate reason he has not responded as of yet.

Gun cases are only $15 at a local gun show.  I should buy a couple just for shipping.  I just shipped two Ballards.  Buttstocks off.  Very well padded in a double walled cardboard box.

I am sorry folks. I started the morning at 5am to load up and go shoot a match. I shot the match and then immediately got in the truck to drive 450 miles to shoot another match Sunday morning. I am just now to a spot where I could reply to forum messages. I am sorry the rifle was damaged in shipping. I have shipped 20+ rifles and this is the first one to be damaged. I am not sure what more I can offer Bill. I offered him three options yesterday the instant it was brought to my attention that the rifle was damaged one of those being a FULL refund for shipping to and from the ffl and any transfer fees. I am not trying to dodge anyone. Bill was given my full address, email, and personal cell phone number yesterday. The only information that I have for Bill is his name, the information for his ffl, and this forum. I am not sure jumping on this forum and bashing the seller is the proper way to handle this when I have done everything I can by offering a full refund as soon as i was I was messaged about the damage. The rifle was recieved at his ffl late afternoon yesterday. I replied by private message the instant I became aware of the damage. I think I have been dilagent on my end trying to resolve the problem. If I was not shooting and driving all day I would have been able to answer him sooner. Bill was private messaged before I replied to this thread.

Anything is fixable. Let's see the damage (but perhaps in another thread in the gunsmithing forum). Save every little tiny speck of wood that was ejected from the break.
