Breech seating 101

I have never breech seated but have read much about it. I would really like to breech seat load my 32-40 Hepburn. It is of course a 30 cal but can the same principles be used for a 30 cal and what dictates how far to seat the bullet?

Use a bullet about .001" over groove diameter. Seat it ahead of the chamber just far enough so it completely seals the bore (that's usually about 1/16" ahead of the chamber but that's not a hard-n-fast distance in front of the chamber mouth). By shooting your rifle you, can seat the bullets a little farther forward or back depending on what yields the best accuracy.
