IN my experience and on the line at BPTR matches Swiss 1/5
is the dominating go-to powder.  It will work well in all three
of those ctges the OP listed

Big difference, a 50 cal round ball only weighs 180gr +/- .

My Quigley long range Shiloh. throated out for A 540 bullet 1/8" in base band.030 wad,  72 gr 3F. Shot 50 fps under A 45-90. I called it a 45-90 Short ! RKS Gain Twist barrel,shot phenomena.....Way cheaper to shoot than A 45-90 too !

My .40-65 was going to sleep around 475 to 500 yards so I increased the velocity using Swiss FFFg.

She starting nailing the RAMS more consistently after that.

I could not get more powder into the case to increase my velocity since I could not extend the bullet with a short chamber leade.

The increased velocity of using a finer  powder worked very well.

People said if I did that I would get more fouling of the barrel.

Actually I got less fouling since all the powder burnt in the barrel and I never had unburned powder fouling my barrel.
