	For Sale: Winchester High Wall Schuetzen Style .32-40 This is a very nice custom rifle that needs some help. The rifle has a 30" full-octagonal barrel. .32-40 caliber with a very good bore. The buttstock and (probably) buttplate are reproduction. The buttstock leaves a gap on both sides where it meets the action. The checkering is professional. The forearm is plain, no checkering. The rifle doesn't have a rear sight. The front sight is a Lyman 17A that secures to a scope block base. The barrel has not been drilled and tapped for scope blocks. The double-set triggers are by Ben Rice. They function nicely. The lever will not come up to the lower tang. It looks like someone put too much force on it and bent the little end piece. See the last two photos. Adjusted Price: $ 1,750 includes shipping via US Post Priority Mail Price adjusted -$200 for a new lever. This is the only adjustment before this goes to GunBroker. 	Nice rifle Joe. If I hadn't just bought a couple, I would be interested. Looks like the lever has just been poorly bent. A new lever or some careful bending would probably solve the issue. Here's a side by side with a properly fitting lever.

	Action alone , in the white would be $1550. Rice triggers would be a big upgrade and original Winchester barrel in this condition might bring $400. Already put together with what I believe minor tweaking makes this a very fair price at $1950 with free shipping. I'm surprised it has lasted this long. I'd be all over this if I didn't have a Ben Rice double set High Wall. HG

	I am also surprised to see it hasn’t sold. I don’t see any issues that are not insurmountable. In my opinion, low ball offers and criticisms should be made in a PM instead of a post. Just sayin’

	I agree with Vall about Joe’s listings both here and on Gun Broker and eBay. He honestly shows any issues and provides accurate descriptions. I but from him on a regular basis. I get very frustrated with the many eBay sellers who provide no descriptions at all or rely on eBay’s worthless AI description option. The AI descriptions are amusing at times though but rarely provide any useful information.

	Re setting the buttstock forward to eliminate the gap: Doing so will also be complicated by the Tang screw and lower tang screw fitting... I would just try to do a good job with walnut colored bedding compound on the tips of the stock to fill the gap thereby avoiding the complication of the screw holes fitting poorly or having to redrill and fit them. beltfed/arnie

	Arnie, The gaps at the receiver are just too big. Filling them would make an otherwise pretty rifle look awful! I would fit the stock to the receiver and drill out the tang screw hole. I’d then make an aluminum pillar for the screw that I’d glue in with epoxy, at the same time bedding the tang mortises and receiver contact points if I thought it necessary. I don’t see the stock fit as a problem. However I have to wonder what’s going on with that lever!

	JKR. I would think a steel pillar would be better to prevent dissimilar metal issues but I like your idea. I have just used bedding compound only with a well lubed tang screw. Your method would be safer. If I were to buy this rifle I would get an MVA Schuetzen lever. I did some final polishing on one that came with a DST 32-40 I bought last year and it turned out well. I don’t think I have seen any of these long loop levers for sale and I see almost every 1885 part listed on eBay.

	Simply put, all movement of the stock will include filling and redrilling the screw holes. A "real" gunsmith knows how to do that.

	JKR. If I hadn’t just bought two rifles from Joe last week, I would be interested. And I am no real gunsmith but I am a disciple of the famous Harlow Parkenfarker. I have seen this quality of work by some self described ‘real’ gunsmiths. I have a Ballard that I had rebarrelled and the ‘smith’ initially used the wrong thread pitch and then re-threaded to Ballard threads. When confronted, he denied ever seeing the rifle despite email threads discussing its progress. It was a RKS barrel and later when I mentioned it to Ron Smith while relaxing over some Canadian whiskey at Tommy Mason’s range, Ron said ‘you only need one good thread.’ We are taking Joe’s thread off topic though. Hope he finds a buyer. Jack

	Joe seems to be our resident drug dealer. He gets us hooked with parts and pieces them WHAM! He tempts us with quality rifles that eventually only deepen our addiction. I thought about joining Schuetzen Anonymous but then I slapped myself, took a cold shower and sat here checking the USPS tracking progress waiting for the cold sweats to subside while I ponder how I am going to replenish my Joe Dobrynski acquisition funds. I may try sitting on a local busy intersection with sign reading “Need Cash for Guns”. Jack

	Bob, Yes I also noticed the checkering. It makes you wonder why it would’ve been shortened in that manner. I’m confident that I can move the stock forward that amount since the tangs look like they fit pretty well. It will be interesting to see what’s in store. Not being a Schuetzen guy, I may offer the butt stock for sale and fit a shotgun butt, pistol grip, stock. Too soon to say for sure.
