I'm wanting a new gun. I'm a shooter not a original collector. I'm wanting something in pistol caliber that's cheap and easy to progressive reload. 

I have been looking at C.Sharps Low Walls.  They offer 45LC. It has a little more powder capacity than I wanted but checks all the boxes.

My concern is by the time I select all the options I want it's 5k. That is the price/quality of rifle in looking for. I'm just not sure a C.Sharps 1885 is worth spending that much money on. Getting exactly what you want is not cheap.

I have a C.Sharps High Wall. It's a nice plain gun. Not sure what someone can tell me that I want to hear.

Not sure if an Italian rifle would suit your interests, but Uberti makes a low-wall in .45 Colt as well as .44-40

I faced the same problem a couple of years ago and decided that there was no way that I could justify dropping five grand on a newly manufactured rifle when I know what kind of an original that money could buy. What I did was to find an original for a fair price and have it restored to new condition. This gave me a beautiful rifle [38/40] that I love and shoot a lot with the character of the original for about $3200. A decision that I don't regret.

I agree with the sentiment so far.  I have a few C. Sharps rifles and they are pretty good rifles ( although mine have custom chambers ), but no where near $5000 rifles. 

For that money I would definitely go custom built, or find a really nice original rifle.  Back when Steven Durren was building rifles he made me a really nice highwall ( using a C. Sharps action as the starting point because the MVA actions weren't quite ready for production).  It cost a little bit more than $5k, but it's an extremely nice rifle and very accurate ( I wanted a copy of one of my originals, a super deluxe Special Single Shot).  A custom builder will pay way more attention to the metal and wood work than you'll ever get on an off the shelf rifle, and it'll shoot a lot better too.

Lots of options but my favorite short range pistol caliber cartridge in a rifle is 38/40. Accurate and economical. Not ideal for large game but have other rifles for that.

When I called C Sharps regarding advertising for the Single Shot Rifle Journal I was told they were going through ownership changes. You will want more details before placing an order.

A few years ago, I bought a Browning Low-wall in 45 Colt for lot less than 1/2 the C Sharps price.   It a great gun.  I use it for shooting a mini-Q match.  Off hand at 300 yard and then over cross sticks at 4, 5, 600 yards on steel buffalo gongs.  I load my rounds with 38 gr of Swiss 1 1/2, shooting a 325 grain lead bullet.  I can routinely hit the 400 thru 600 target 6 to 8 times out 8 trys.   

Buy the Browning for a lot less money and enjoy it.

  Not  single shots but have always like Marlin Lever actions. Last half dozen years will load up 3 or 4 and take my grandson to one of my clubs ranges we have 14 on the property, most times can find one to ourselves .

Hanging steel swingers 25 50 75 & 100 plink offhand with 39’As 1894’s in pistol calibers  and always a 336 30/30.

Most popular are one of my 39A .22 rifles with a Unertl 3X small game and a 1894 full rifle in 38/40. 336 straight grip Texan 30/30 carbine using cast bullets close third 

The 38/40 is simple and inexpensive to load with cast 10 MM pistol bullets & Unique. On a turret press turning out 100 is easy. Mine has a MVA Lyman style tang sight adjustments, quick and precise. Will make long runs of hits. Rings the small animal copy steel with authority.

Though often about taking it Javelina hunting in West Texas still may make the trip. Probably the largest animal it’s adequate for. The Texan 30/30 would be a good back up.
