First OH target with Dick Bingers rifle. The rifle fits me well. Pay no attention to the shot's on the left. Strays.
Caliber is 33-40. Load was 14.5 gr 4227 under a Ron Long 240 gr spitzer. Bullets hit the target a bit tipped. Might try 15 gr powder. Seems a little anemic with 14.5.

I have a 33/357 Max that I have not shot yet. Does anyone know how close the loads would be to a 33-40. Guessing they must be similar.

What kind of rifle? 33-357MAX. Odd one. First one I've heard of.

My guess would be 12 gr H108/AA #9. Breech seated in a strong rifle.

If a Ballard and I owned it, would chamber to 33-40.

Joe, you don't remember my 33/357 Max, in my Borchardt?

My best load was 13.5 gr #9, with a 240 gr bullet, breach seated.

These are all 200 yard targets, shot in matches but, the Pope target, is with your Pope bullet, shot in practice, at Spokane.

I forgot Frank. Yes I remember when you tried the Pope bullets at Tommy's.

But still, 33-357 MAX is a rare one, I think...  Undecided

I called it a 33 ELCO, ELCO being the name of my machine shop (Elliott Company).

The chamber was made by running a a neck and throat reamer, in to 1.610 and then coming back in with a 223, piloted reamer to make a neck length of .33.

The 223 shoulder and the 33 neck are the same diameter so, there is no shoulder.

Mine is a Miller Action. One of Clark Ehlers Collection. Was fortunate to get 100 cases with it and I also bought a couple of Clark's 33 cal molds in the 240-250gr range. Hopefully will be a good shooter. There was a note in the case box referencing AA#9. The rifle was set up for benchrest.

#9 was the only powder that I could get to shoot like the targets show. the rest of the powders I tried grouped at least 25% bigger and usually spread open sideways.

Primers, also made a difference Rem #7 1/2 were the best, CCI SR BR were second.

Sorry to Westerner for side tracking his HW tread. Looks like my 33-357Max case is real simple to make. I just ran a virgin 357 Max into a 223 die part way and it chambers in my rifle, no trimming required. Frank, Thanks for the load info. I have some Rem 7 1/2 and #9 so I have a good start point. If my rifle shoots anywhere close to what yours will I will be grinning from ear to ear. A few of the cases that came with the rifle were loaded with powder with floral foam on top. I weighed a couple charges, 14.3gr of what appears to be #9. There was also another fine powder in a few cases that was blacker in color and looked much like the current Enforcer powder.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Those are all great targets Frank, but that first one is beyond great! Amazing!
