	Hello I found this at the Reno gunshow and thought I would share the only inscription is "DEC. 25 1882" the seller said he received it damaged, the top has/had three rifles standing two of which broke off, I have the pieces and still deciding if I want to have repaired?? I have not done any research yet.

	That is a very cool trophy. I've always liked trophies where the cup is held up by rifles. As for match details, it will be very hard to identify the exact match without a city or shooter's name on the cup. Very, very nice !

	That's a very ornate trophy and I too love old shooting trophies! I just picked up one at our OAC collector gun show here this weekend. I need to try to figure it out too. Mine is dated 1925, and has crossed rifles on the side, with N.A.R.C. engraved on it in large letters. Then below is an arrowhead that has Mid Atlantic Match cast into the arrowhead. Guessing the N.A.R.C. is either North American Rifle Club or maybe North Atlantic Rifle Club?

Is the maker present anywhere on the trophy? Blackinton was established in 1862 and is still in business. They have always been huge in this field. There are others too, of course. You may luck out and discover a lot of cool background. Good luck. I have not done any research yet.

	Addressing the two posts, there was an N.A.R.C., North American Rifle Club, established in the 1880s. The trophy shown is from a winter match, almost certainly associated with Creedmoor Range on Long Island. A little research in The New York Times or Boston papers or any Long Island papers might be promising.

My searches for the North American Rifle Club all came up with history related to the early years of the NRA and the Creedmoor Matches. None of those mentioned any NARC in the articles, so the search continues. Attempts to search newspaper archives all wanted me to subscribe to do any searches.

	Vall is correct. This is from Creedmoor in the earliest form of the NRA. Might the initials NARC imply "National Association Rifle Creedmoor"? Perhaps the engraver thought a pronounceable syllable best? When was the last of the NRA's matches at the Creedmoor range?

	To the original OP. Many of the East Coast shooting clubs held a Christmas Day match anywhere from trap shooting, pistol shooting, to Creedmoor and offhand. Go to Forest and Stream magazine through HathiTrust or Internet Archives. I like Internet Archives best. Search for volume 19 which takes in August of 1882 to early Jan.1883. This is obviously a Christmas Day match and there are many scores given for those days. I spent about an hour looking on it today and found lots of scores posted. There is a report from the Newport Rifle Club. Milton Farrow won the 200 yards off hand match B.fellows won the Creedmoor practice at Walnut Hill. C.A Allen won the Massachusetts match at the Pine Grove range in Worcestershire, Massachusetts and M.Carter won the Creedmoor match. Also there were Gardner Rifle Club and Woodland Club scores posted. Lots of stuff to read but takes too much time in the summer when there's better things to do. It would be a good winter project to research.

A match was held in 1879 but no other country showed up and there were 39 shooters. There may have been some other matches held afterwards but they were more between military teams supported by various countries.
