The #2 that I recently bought came equipped with a Beach style front sight that is different from the original Beach and Lyman sights that I own. It has no markings and uses a small leaf spring to provide tension rather than the screws found on the originals. I found one reference that said that Remington, Winchester and others made their own versions after the patent ran out and I'm wondering if this is true.

I think it's true, and have both Remington and Marlin versions that have minor differences from the Beach or Lyman versions.
