About barrel length

I have been hearing things about the laws regarding barrel length and suppressors changing.  I dont know how to find out for sure other than asking here.
What I would like to know is that is it now legal to mount my 14"Thompson Center Contender barrel to a shoulder stock ?
Thanks in advance.

I would suggest you not take such advice from a forum. You could wind up in deep trouble. I can tell you States are not all the same. The ATF should have a office in your state that you can contact and ask questions. It will take some time for this to sort out and some states likely will need to change their Statutes.

I am also waiting to be able to put a stock on my Contender frame without having to file stupid government paperwork for barrels under 16”.  That .357 Herret barrel in my safe sure would be more fun as a rifle than as a pistol.

But, No you can not.  Montana doesn’t have favorable state laws when it comes to NFA items.  They are allowed, but you need the Form 1 or Form 4.  If you don’t have the Form because it is no longer required, you can’t have the fun toys.  Either your state AG needs to opine on the law, or your legislature needs to act a little less California like.

Also, you have to be one of the named plaintiffs in the lawsuits or one of their members/customers.  The most common one is GOA.  Even though the Montana state AG filed as a part of the lawsuit, it only covers the state, not citizens of the state.

Best to pay $500 an hour to a good lawyer to get a straight answer.  Or wait until ATF makes a formal statement.  Calling their office won’t get you anywhere.  I did that Friday morning and got told that nothing changed because a judge in Texas doesn’t tell them what to do.

Bloop tubes make a barrel long enough as long as the tube can't be easily removed: pinned, threaded and locktite, or all three.
