Spokane Fires

In so many ways I've always regretted leaving the big Western states especially Idaho. Then I read and watching the film of these big fires and shortage of water out West and guess I'm lucky here in Michigan.

Good old railroad buddy I worked with and went to college with moved to Spokane to marry his love. He sent me a message three days ago describing how that fire came right to the Spokane River NW side. Most everybody figured a river that size was a natural reliable fire break. Wrong, with the hot weather the sap has been climbing up the timber and that fire line went ' crown ' the tree tops literally exploded and it went right over the river he said. Sure hope none of you guys are caught up in this disaster. Sure wish I could help

Rick

The three Spokane fires were started by one arsonist. A 37 yr. old ex con who has a history of previous arson. He got caught because he stupidly told strangers he did it in a bar and they called the police. I can only hope he never sees the outside of a prison cell again.

Hey Rick,
I’m with you.  Currently spending a few days on Grand Traverse Bay.  Beautiful sand beaches and wonderful (unsalted) water.  The Bay gets to 600 ft deep so it’s a formidable body of water.
Enjoyed the features of many other States, but always look forward to returning here on the Peninsula.
Mike.
