	In a previous post I talked about the Stevens Ladies Model Favorite that I recently bought. I'm going to send it out to have the barrel lined and was thinking about what joy it would bring me to have it brought back to it's original condition. There are no case colors showing and while the barrel is very good it is starting to go brown. The question is would restoring it be unwise due to it's rarity factor? For me having bright case colors and a nicely blued barrel would add a lot to my pride of ownership and would allow me to enjoy it more. I'm not too concerned with those who come later because I won't be here to hear them call me an idiot. I also can't see anyone not loving this rifle. It's foolish to ask a question that I have the answer to but I would like to know what the general consensus is. Thanks

	I usually don't care to restore an old single shot unless it's pretty far gone. But if the stocks are in nice shape, but bluing and CCH are gone I think having them redone professionally wont hurt the value. And to many collectors the reline changes it anyway, so why not do the rest also?

	It's your rifle to do as you please. I own rifles that have been re-done,and rifles that are untouched and crusty. Also originals that are in real nice condition, these are the collector pieces in my mind. I have to admit that I tend to like the crusty rifles a bit better than the re-done ones. They have their own charm. If you are going to re-do the bluing and color case hardening, I would suggest having the color case done in the Stevens ripple pattern. I know that many people don't like the ripple pattern, but to me a re-color case in a different pattern on a Stevens rifle just looks so wrong.

	If I have it done I will definitely use the ripple pattern if I can find someone to do it. Seems that CPA no longer lists finishing services on their web site so who knows?

It’s just a matter of how they quench the part. Bob Unfortunately the last word at C. Sharps was no more outside work. They only do production work, or work on their own rifles. They do take work from some other professional gunsmiths still, but not from private parties. I had my Ballard 3F rebarreled by C. Sharps as I had Al Springer do the CCH and rust bluing, and he had C. Sharps fit the barrel.

	Contact CPA, they'll probably will do color case hardening for you.

	I just had a nice conversation with the folks at C. Sharps and they do offer refinishing and barrel work. They do not install liners so I will have to have that done before I send them the rifle. They can do the Stevens colors with a six week turnaround which I think is pretty good and the price is quite fair.

It was just last winter they told me they were 2 years behind on building rifles and wouldn't take on any outside work until further notice. Glad that's over now.

	Yes, I was mistaken. CPA does offer case hardening. I just didn't dig far enough into their web site to find it.
