I don't know about the Hornady, but I found out in another rifle that the Remington rim was thicker than the Winchester so suggest checking.

i have formed brass for my 38-50 from Remington
30-40 K brass. First ran the Krag brass thru a 303 brit brass.
It reduces the shoulder dia enough so it then chambers.
about 8 grains of Red Dot or Unique then fill the case snugly
with corn meal, add a smear of bullet lube to seal the case mouths.
Proceed to load these "blanks" , point straight up, and fire them
Forms the brass very well into 38-50, ready for trimming 
the case mouths of the excess length that protruded into the leade/throat. Trim just enough so that the case mouths fit closely up 
to the case stop in your rifle. A second firing can then be done with bullets.
I don't know how the 30-40 Hornady brass will work. Probably OK.  BTW I have new Hornady Krag brass on hand......
I do know from forming 40-65 from 45-70 that the Rem brass
forms better than WW brass. the WW brass can get dents when reformed to the 40-65

I like them both, but I think the new Hornady stuff seems to have more uniform neck thickness.  At least compared to the batch of R-P brass I have.  I use the same charge of Unique with cream of wheat on top to form either brand of cases.

Forgot to mention that after my second firing 
I outside neck turn the brass, a thousandth or so to take care of any slight neck thickness concentriciity
