I recently bought & received Campbell's books WINCHESTER SINGLE SHOT RIFLES Vol's 1 & 2.

They look excellent.

I have a substantial arms library including a number of books on single shots, but am wondering what books you all consider worth getting relating to American Single Shots, in or out of print?

the jim grant books is a good starting point then others that have all the models.then the books that are on specific models.rollingblock,hepburn,ballard,bullard,tom rowe has taken thousands from me for his books all pretty good.

No finer gun related book than John Dutcher's Ballard book. It's what all others should study before they put together a book on any type of rifle. Great details, and technical info. A wonderful index to look things up. Lots of descriptions of detailed changes and features.

I strongly agree with marlinguy.  I got my (autographed) copy when the first came out.  I also recommend the book on the Maynards by Remiger, Miller & Rowe. 

There were a couple of small paperbacks by Layman, one about Ballards and the other about Maynards. They are nowhere near as thorough as the two mentioned above, but they are easier to find and much less expensive.  But remember, you get what you pay for!

Another book I got early on was the Roberts and Waters book, I strongly agree with marlinguy.  I got my (autographed) copy when the first came out.  I also recommend the book on the Maynards by Remiger, Miller & Rowe. The Breech Loading Single-Shot Rifle.

Most such books cover the historical and collector aspects of the rifles, and, as noted, are more or less thoroughly well done.

The ones that uniquely cover the mechanical aspects are the books by Frank de Haas.

If you gravitate towards collector-grade specimens, such books as recommended above, plus Marcot, et al's books on Sharps and Remington rifles, are valuable for understanding models, history and context.

On the other hand, if your penchant is buying "embarrassed" specimens that need fixing up or maintenance for shooting, de Haas' books are absolutely necessary.

There are other Rowe books, such as Hepburn, and the Pope series. Jamieson has Bullard books and is working on others

If you're interested in how they were used as target arms, you need Randy Wright's books. 

If you're interested in how the actions work Frank de Hass single shot rifle actions is a must have.   

Over the last 50+ years, since I was a teen, I tried to acquire them all
