ACCURATE AAC-2015 in original 1874 Sharps 45-70

I appreciate the feedback on my earlier post. But jumping to the 21 century, I ran into load data indicating that AAC-2015 worked well in straight walled cases and specifically mentioned 45-70. Has anyone tried this powder in 45-70 with a 405gr cast bullet? And, is so, how did it perform?

I used it in smaller cases, wanted something that produced lower pressures. Worked well but I hate stick powders!

Specifically which "smaller cases"? Straight walled or bottlenecked?

It has been a number of years since I shot the 45-70 but remember using it with AA-2015 and 385 grain cast.  Don't remember the charge weights anymore but it worked pretty well and was fairly clean burning. I am too old to do the big ones anymore- 38-55 is the upper limit now.

AA 2015 is one of the best in the right case and it's good in a lot of cartridges. Somebody mentioned they hated " stick " powders and I can understand the hatred for long stick kernels choking your powder measure but 2015, though extruded, is so small you'd think your throwing spherical. This powder is as smooth to throw as it gets except Win ball.

It's the most consistent accurate powder I've ever shot in my 40x 222 and my long gone 219 Wasp. It's a top performer in the 222 mag, 223, 225 and similar cartridges. Burns very clean and uniformly and from what I can tell is not batch sensitive

I use it in my 375 Win, some in 38-55. In the 375 Win it shoots accurately both soft ball or hard ball loads.  In my 444 Marlin with compressed loads I get consistent 2200 fps with the old Barnes 300 gr. 'Original' bullets. In the 45-70 I can get accuracy with not much punch with loads around 1400-1500 fps. These are fun and very clean.

Great powder but other than the Benchrest crowd seems a bit under utilized. Probably my rifles but never got any Hornet or K-Hornet loads dialed in with this powder and no reason why.

Rick
