I just bought a Remington #2 with an H prefix on the serial number. Anyone know what it means?

Never seen this before myself. And I just checked John Gyde's Remington book also and no mention of any letter codes.
What is the rollstamp on the barrel read? That will at least give an idea of when it was made.

I just went over the rifle and it has the standard R.A.C. Ilion N.Y.  roll stamp on the top flat with a small P stamped on the bottom flat just in front of the fore end. Also on the bottom flat there is an A with a period stamped just in front of the frame. Patent dates on the left side of the frame and the serial number on the bottom tang, H42660. No other marks are visible and I didn't remove the buttstock because why tempt fate.

Well that narrows it down to after receivership. 1888 to 1913. R.A.C. sold a total of 24,230 of the #2 during those years.
