The conditions stated by the Seller should say:

The first 'I'll Take It' with no conditions made""Posted here on the open Forum"" gets the item..
Please follow up with a PM for payment and shipping info.

Conditions to the buy, an I'll Take It sent by PM but no ITI made on the open forum listing take a back seat to the above.

JMO and how I list stuff.

When buying off our FS section I always post I'll take it, and as soon as I post that I send the seller a PM with any questions I have or how he wants to be paid. I also send the seller my name, address, and cell phone number so he knows I'm ligitimate and serious.
I don't understand anyone posting they'll take it and not sending a PM at the same time? You're already on this forum, so why not send the PM the same time?

This felt like a more friendly forum until I read this thread. Guess someone could miss out on the deal of a lifetime. Unfortunate. Regrettable. Whatever else. The Moderators should come up with rules? Maybe the guberment needs to make the rules. God help us survive the rules!

I think making sensible suggestions that make it more of a courtesy instead of a rule would be best. Rules imply enforcement which would involve moderators. Next would come the lawyers and prosecutors followed by some time in the penalty box.

People who think they know everything are a great annoyance to those of us who do.

Val, this particular case that RJ posted about is a bit different.  He and I posted simultaneously in the thread that we would take it.  I didn't see his post, which I presume was above mine.  When I hit reply to type my post, there was no post saying "I"ll take it" in the thread.  The seller had two ads up, One for favorite parts and one for the high wall.  I wanted both.  I replied to the favorite ad, and sent a PM saying I would take it.  Then, posted in the high wall action ad, apparently simultaneously with RJ.

I posted in both ads that I would take it, and sent an immediate PM.  The thing that went wrong was the simultaneous posting of two "I'll take it" replies, where I didn't see the one posted at the same as mine, above mine.

What the seller saw was my PM saying I'd take both of the items, and I presume a PM from RJ later saying he would take the high wall.

If the seller states "First I'll take it" and you want to see more pictures before actually deciding you shouldn't say you will take it. If you say I'll take it it should be a done deal. When you say you will take it and don't folow up with a PM right away it causes issues

Totally agree. If somebody says I'll take it with stipulations like need more pictures or working out a deal, should not get the buy if somebody comes along and says I'll take it with no stipulations. Putting stipulations on the purchase just makes it harder for the seller. What if later, the person that wants to buy but waiting to see more pictures or working out a deal, backs out.

I disagree, as sometimes the seller doesn't even post pictures, just a description. So if the buyer wants it based on description he shouldn't get kicked to the curb by sending a PM saying he'll take it, but would appreciate pictures to confirm the description.
I'd understand if the seller posted good pictures and the prospective buyer just wanted to bother him by asking for more before completing the sale.

If you want more pictures or more information, IMHO, you shouldn't say I'll take it. Unless you post for all to see, that I will take it pending the pictures or information. The seller shouldn't have to hold the item very long after providing the pictures or more information.
You sure have to act fast at times to get a good deal.

States Rights,
I think this is a very friendly forum...

The convention that has been in place for the last 10 years and before
is the first 'Unconditional' I'll take it' post  should the successful party.

That said If the seller chooses to depart from the 'Convention' that's on him and IMO not a reflection on the Forum as a whole.

I haven't seen any personal criticisms posted here which would border on "Unfriendly"
I think most of the more critical observations are reserved for PM's as appropriate.

While I think the moderators could and should come up with better guidelines lets not forget they are unpaid volunteers.

And lets also not forget there will be sellers who choose to ignore the long established conventions and buyers who do not perform even though they said "I'll Take it' unconditionally.

So the basis of the question here is,

Should the buyer be held to the sellers conditions.

Or should the seller be held to the buyers conditions.

One thing is certain, when the forum sets the rules, the moderators spend way to much time policing the classifieds and settling disputes.

I see it as neither. I see it as should the seller be held to the first "I'll take it" reply? The buyer should be held to following through once he says he'll take it.
