Around here, If you ask someone if they have ever been to a foreign country and they say no. "What, you've never been to Canada?" The answer is: "Well, of course I've been to Canada, lots of times. That's not a foreign country".  Smiley

THX Bob for remembering the Canadian 159 th. Anniversary.

The dog is somewhat mortified by the cup of black powder used by Tommy Mason to set off his 12 pin bowling ball mortar.

It is also the day we also formally welcome immigrants who have been granted Canadian citizenship.

Frank:

Current Polling Overview:

Albertans are set to vote on October 19, 2026, on whether to hold a binding referendum on separation from Canada
Multiple polls conducted in 2025 and 2026 show that support for independence is consistently low, generally ranging from 19% to 29%, while opposition remains strong at 64–75%

A CBC/Janet Brown poll (April 2026) found 27% support, 67% opposed, and 6% undecided

Abacus Data (March 2026) reported 26% support, 64% opposed, and 9% unsure

Global News/Ipsos (January 2026) indicated 29% support, but only about half of these were fully committed to separation

Pollara Strategic Insights (March 2026) found 27% of decided voters would vote for separation, with 15% considering it as a symbolic message to Ottawa

Never going to happen.

I don't think it will happen, but the sentiment should change politics a bit for the better for those of us in the west.  Most of the political power has always been in the big eastern cities.  For the most part I try to keep away from the politics.  What I like about Canada is our vast wilderness.  Most people don't quite understand how big and empty it is here.  B.C. Is bigger than California, Oregon, and Washington states combined, and 90% of our population is within 50 miles of the Canada/U.S. Border.  Once you get a bit north it's just about perfect.

Yes, I love BC. I've been there many times. Victoria is my favorite city, in the winter. I've even been to the Queen Charlotte Islands! Not much there but, I can say I've been there Smiley And I love the Fraser River canyon. I've been to Arrow lake, too.
