Falling Block Works Feature

Searching the internet, I found an image reported to be a FBW J-3 action in section view.

There is an area that I do not understand and hope the membership might explain to me.

1. A curved relief on the bottom of the link (or is "toggle" correct?)
2. A vertical feature directly below the relief (and related?).

What are these features and what do they do?

Thank you,

Without getting a FWB out to verify, that's a spring loaded plunger which engage the divot in the link once the action is closed, keeping the action closed and preventing the lever from dropping.

Thanks 830.

So, there would be solid plunger on top of coil spring. Then possibly a cross-retaining pin to keep the plunger from flying away during disassembly.

As you may have an FBW, do you know if this is an effective method of combating lever droop?

Thanks,

Your welcome.  Sorry, to lazy tonight to go looking.

Looking at the drawing, it "might" be a tapped through hole with the spring and plunger loaded after the action is assembled and trapped in place with a small plug screw.

It works just like the coil spring original 1885 Winchester actions.

Pulled the box 'o parts outta my closet... the hole you are asking about in the picture is not threaded, its just a blind hole on the top of the lever that a spring and pin sits in (its not under a lot of pressure,  but just enough to keep the action closed). To access it, you have to take the link pin out to separate the breech block from the lever
