New Ballard coming soon

I bought it from Griffin & Howe. Advertised as a 25/20 WCF, we'll see about that when I have it.  No picture of the whole barrel stamp but The barrel is adorned "No 972 Griffin & Howe Inc. New York" in the description. No news yet but they are researching it in their archives. Full length forearm is curious.

Is that a full length Mannlicher stock on it?
The Vaver appears to have an adapter base? I've got a couple of Vaver sights for Ballard and Stevens rifles and both are blued bases.

Yep full Mannlicher. I'm hoping G&H can document the rifle.

In your picture it says "proposed" Does that mean that is what you have planned for it?

Double set trigger Ballard, nice.

Glad you asked Joe! I was wondering what the descriptions on the two pictures meant?

The "proposed" is the planed version. I'll check for #'s matching parts and go from there. Then if G&H has any history that will also influence the plan. The full loop lever will be here tomorrow. The #5 lever is not original. That makes Me think that the block won't match. The pad has to go and most likely the butt stock was trimmed to fit it also removing a #.

As I recall from Michael Petrov's book, the fact of a G & H number means they did more than add a barrel.  The wood may be theirs, or they may have stocked it and someone switched it out in the almost 100 years since they built it.

Your proposal looks very much like what they would have done.  I had a G & H High Wall with similar classic lines.
