Bullet size bore wear-22 Hornet

Early barrels in Winchester rifles  favored .223 jacketed bullets. Will use of .224 jacketed bullets at 22 Hornet velocities cause undue wear to the bore?

Rifle in question applies to a Model 54, but it will also apply to a Low Wall in 22 Hornet with .223 size bore. Jacketed bullets again.

.223 Hornet bullets (40 and 45 grain) are made by Sierra and Hornady and easily available. Why not use the ones that were made for the Hornet?

Don't sweat it. That silly little .001" won't matter. .224 bullets shoot more accurately to boot in my .223 bores (Browning Low Wall & a Winchester 54) than .223 bullets do. (13.0gr. Lil Gun + 40 Vmax in both)

My old Sako (made like a small Mauser action) showed distinct pressure jumps using its ordinary load when I used the silly thousandth bigger bullets. Brass life was abysmal due to that when I persisted- soon learned and went back to plain vanilla recipes. Get the Hornady. Heck, why not, you are buying boxes of bullets the right ones cost the same as the trouble makers.

I'll not dispute your observations, but the fact is I get zero pressure signs and stupid long case life (Norma brass admittedly) with that stiff/max load of 13 gr. Lil Gun and 40 Vmax. (Not to mention 1/2MOA accuracy in both guns at a measured 3100 fps.) I have never experienced bore wear or pressure issues in a the 1/2 dozen or so Hornets I've owned and shot extensively (yes, I'm a Hornet slut), all of which possessed .223 bores and rarely did I bother with .223 bullets. The clouds really opened up and the sun came out when Lil Gun came on the market.

Perhaps the ghosts of Wotkyns, Whelen, Woody, et al smiled on me the whole time, who knows.

I would think that as long as the load is developed with the specific bullet diameter to be used it should be fine with either diameter.  I can see where developing a load using the .223" diameter then simply switching to the .224" diameter without adjusting the load could cause pressure issues.
