375 Winchester Brass
Print Post
Some time ago I recall someone saying they use 375 Winchester brass as the parent case for another cartridge but I can't recall what that cartridge is.... Anyone else use it as a parent case for another cartridge other than 375 Win...?

My understanding is that it can be used as a case for 38-55 and due to it's reported thicker web it can hold higher pressures than the standard 38-55 case.

Any thoughts.. Ferris...?

you could form any of the cases chambered in the model 94 from .25-35 to that ol' .375 if you want to go to the trouble.
as far as those cases absorbing higher pressure... I'd like to see a sectioned hull compared to, say, a .30-30. before the cutting I'd wager that they just ain't any difference. and, the gun is more the concern as to high pressure anyhow.

If you used it for .32-40 or .38-55 the brass will be short.

Dont believe everything you hear. Sectioned cases for all cartridges based on the 30-30 size case head are all the same, at least all that I have seen.
The heavier or thicker web in the 375 win case was a myth, an advertising hoax to boost sales.
If the web was thicker then the internal case volume would be reduced.
I believe the original big bore 94 had some extra steel (wider) behind the locking lug.

I have some 7mm international rimmed cases someone formed from 375. They were cheap. Haven't tried loading them yet.

Back when I had an FFL I bought a new American Bald Eagle Commemorative 375 from the distributor and kept it for a year or two in the box and then sold it to a friend for $300.
Bet it is worth more than that now.

You'll drop about 6 or more grains of water using as a 32-40 sized down.It is beefier A 375 Starline brass weighs 158.40  give/take
Winchester 38-55 weighs 137.80 give/take.   Do the math, have fun. Been playing with this brass since it came out and I bought a win 375 Big bore Carbine in 1979,was my pack around gun while in  Alaska logging camps back then. Ya I got razzed by guys on the gun...but at least I HAD A gun in my hand while in the bush fishing and they didnt..LOL...so shoot them in the foot if a Brownie charges and run....
