540 Grain .458 NASA bullet mold

Print Post
Brass 458 caliber bullet mold by Old West Bullets.  This 540 grain bullet is very aerodynamic; runs roughly 2/3 of the windage of my similar weight creedmore molds.  I've shot this for over 20 years at Quigley.  Still shooting it, but I had Steve Brooks make me a slightly smaller one because I went from using 20:1 to antimonly lead.  I dip lube these bullets and the single wide groove works beautifully.  I get no leading in any of my 45-90 rifles, with black powder.

I have two of these molds available.  Both cast 459 with 20:1 lead, 540 grain nominal.

$125 including shipping for each mold.

I shoot them fixed.  I seat in an unsized, fire formed case until the front band ahead of the groove is just barely exposed.  The front section ahead of the band is a bore rider.  Gives the nicely centered, snug fit of a breech seated bullet in a blackpowder cartridge rifle.

I like it...THX DAVE..!

This is my similar design although I believe yours is better.
My bore riding section has what I call a centering ring, The band just above my single lube groove matches the taper and depth of my leade / freebore exactly.

I have to credit Dan Theodore (RIP) for his inspiration.
This CPA 35-40 Maynard is a 12 twist, bullet is 1.4" X.359 X.350 (20/1)
The chamber reamer was made to his design specifications with the case mouth .003 over a loaded cartridge
