Need some guidance on the appropriate tang sight for a Stevens Model 44 - If you can provide both the guidance and the sight I'm buying.  Oh by the way, need a globe front as well.

Thanks

I have a Lee shaver base on my 44 1/2. Have used several different staffs.

Depending on your budget I'd guess you can go affordable or MVA and anything in between. I have a couple of budget sights and a Pedersoli or two.

Depending on the comb of your stock the eye cup may hit the stock when folded back on the taller staffs

I've always liked the 'Goodwin' off set staff but never had one, this style eliminates the cleaning rod issue.
If you are shooting BP with frequent cleaning that may be something to consider. especially if you are using a metal cleaning rod vs. a delran flex rod as the staff might interfere with a straight shot into the bore with a metal cleaning rod depending on the stock.

Call me if my explanation is clear as mud, you have my number.

What rear is appropriate is dependent on your usage,  the depth of your pocket book and if period correct is part of the equation.  As mentioned Lee Shaver makes a very nice rear sight of two different grades. There are  always quite a few period tang sight for sale on eBay and right here on the forum. If you don't require repeatable adjustments and the Kool factor isn't part of the equation a Marbles tang sight does everything that any of them do for a whole lot less money. As for the front sight I modify Lyman model 17A sights to fit the Stevens dovetail. I start out with the medium height sight, Mill off the 3/8 dovetail and cut a new one in the remains of the base.
