ISSA vs ASSRA targets

Hello everyone,

I tried addressing this message to some ISSA board members but for some reason my e-mail system (which sucks) would not or could not send the message.
So if there are any ISSA board members that see this, I would like to respectfully suggest that ISSA use the same paper for its targets that ASSRA uses. My wife Laura and I were at the range today getting ready for the ISSA regional in Eau Claire. We had an ASSRA target and a ISSA target up at 200 yards. The backstop was shaded at the time by some trees and it was impossible to see a .22 bullet hole in the ISSA target. We could see .22 cal holes in the ASSRA with little difficulty. Sometimes in low light conditions its tricky to see a centerfire hole with the ISSA targets. I suppose the cost of targets would be increased but the finish and brightness of the ASSRA targets make it much easier to see bullet holes of all sizes, especially .22 cal,  as opposed to ISSA targets, which are much darker.

I am NOT trying to start an argument between ASSRA and ISSA as to who has the best targets, just trying to generate a constructive discussion.

I don't shoot any more but, I agree.

Since there is talk about getting the two organization closer, it would be a positive thing and the larger quantity of target printed could also bring the cost down for ASSRA. A win, win!

The simplest solution would be to use a red filter on your spotting scope. That can make .22 bullet holes easier to see at 200 yards.
I’m an ISSA board member but this is my post and does NOT represent the ISSA Board of Directors.
The ISSA targets are intended for the matches we shoot. We are a small niche in the Schuetzen game and our targets work well for their intended purpose. I’m not particularly enamored with the target paper but that’s the paper stock on which our vendor prints all their targets.
I’m always open for constructive discussion but there is no argument to be made - the ASSRA targets are “better” than the ISSA targets. Wink

There are indeed two Americas. Simply put, it is not the haves and have nots. The two Americans are in reality divided into those who do and those who don't.

ISSA targets are a problem when relays start at 7:00 AM. Can be very dark out specially when trying to shoot IS targets.

The other problem for a few is, ISSA does not offer IS .22 targets. If you want to use a rifle lacking a scope you're out of luck.
