Ordering a MVA Stevens front sight.

I don't know how to get a decent measurement for the front sight dovetail. MVA has several options. Any advice on which size to pick for a 2600 serial number range 44 1/2?

I could use a couple of small pins and do the math. Thought I would ask first.

In the past I have used a piece of plastic. Filed and sanded it to fit then measured it, Unleash Your Inner MacGyver.

Measure to a true point on the chamfer?  Sounds good.

In theory, .453”, in reality .469” can be a better choice.

I have had a couple where a .453 was too loose, so fitting a .469 was easy.

Easy to measure they have guide on the website. Two 1/16” drill bits in the corners and a caliper is accurate enough. If you don’t have the old sight to measure.

They also explain why the measurement of their actual sight will be different than the dovetail it fits.

I believe all CPA rifles have a standard 3/8" dovetail.  Call them and ask.

Yes. .375” for a CPA.

The original Stevens should be 29/64” or .453”.

The problem that can come up is an old dovetail, that has been worked over, kind of sucks to order a couple hundred dollar sight based on “what it should be” and have it fall out. Then you have an extra sight laying around that needs a rifle to call home. Undecided

Gets expensive

Found the chart on the website, thanks. That helps a lot.

I cut up old pop cans with scissors and trim until they fit the bottom of the dovetail. After they fit I measure them and get the exact size sight base.

MVA's site says to mail them your front site, and they will make you one with the proper dove tail.

If a sight is a little loose in the dovetail, I shim them with a shim cut from a cheap feeler gauge. I measured a couple of Stevens front sights, Dellet is correct,  .453 is about what I come up with.

Bruce Grant, Single Shot Rifles. In the appendix has most dovetail sizes.

Also twists, bullet diameter, case lengths……
