Ballard No 6

A real nice Ballard no 6 forged action in 22 RF. Stevens oct/round barrel 30". Its the lever that is A killer design. whover made it did an outstanding job.  I bought the gun at auction with the intent to drop the lever and put on an original Ballard ball and spur I have tucked away. Well in shooting the gun this lever just feels so right! Ther bore has a little pitting but shoots very accurate at 100 yds using the very rough post globe sight. I'm going to go ahead and mount Unertl bases on the barrel. My eyes just dont do as well with iron. Possible mount A better globe sight also. Well the pics wont take.I'll work on down sizing them...

Hopefully it wasn't the guy who modified this one.  Found it on a table at a gun show for $10 and felt sorry for it.

I had talked to John Dutcher about these mystery levers, and yes Ron Long did make one, but I think he copied one of Dutcher's. They're usually on Ballard gallery rifles, the one I have is on a 22 Short Gallery with a Winchester barrel.

This Ballard I picked up has a Stevens Barrel on it. I hate to drill and tap for Unertl bases but it'll be A great scope gun !

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

That buttplate screams Berg to me, so wonder if the lever is maybe Berg's work also? But I'm not sure that Ballard started life as a #6? It looks like it's a straight grip receiver, and all #6 Ballards were pistol grip receivers and straight grip stocks. I think that's a #5 Pacific receiver, and an early one with flat side.
