Been a while..

I was going through a box and came across some dirty brass-it had been loaded with black powder. The brass was  stained, so I decided to dig out the tumbler and clean it up.

I haven't did much tumbling lately.  I have steel pins and tumbling solution.  Put every thing in the tumbler barrel, added some water and turned it on for 2 hours.

Now I have 20 rounds of black shiney brass.

Obviously I did something wrong.  Any ideas on what I did wrong and how  I correct it?

I use a teasoon of Lemishine and a squirt of soap.  I'll bet that cleans them up so they look new.

Nothing wrong with black and shiny. If you want it to look new, do as gunmaker suggests. You may need to let it tumble a bit longer than two hours though.

The advice above about using Lemishine(or citric acid) and a squirt of soap is solid.  However, if you get black shiny cases and don’t want to wet tumble them again…   An hour or two with some walnut shell in a vibratory tumbler will make them shiny and brass colored.

Click! Light just went on. I am helping the Grandson dispose of his other Grandfathers estate (reloading stuff)-he was a 3 gun shooter.  There is a vibratory tumbler that hasn't sold yet. I think I will claim it.

Thanks Gentlemen.

Well the vibratory tumbler didn't work...the brass spent 6 hours on the tumbler. Still just shiney black brass.

Figure out where i got the solution...called Buffalo Arms. They said use 2 or 3 teaspoons of solution and nothing else.

So I'll start over this morning.

I think I'd like to be out at the range having shiny black cases. As it is, I only wash mine in Lemi shine or Birchwood-Casey cleaner.

I figured out I got the needles and liquid from Buffalo Arms.  I was on a hunting trip with Dave Gullo and he told me abut this stuff.

So I called them.  They said use 2 or 3 table spoons of the liquid.

Tried that, and it worked perfect. I have nice clean shiny brass colored brass now.

THe quart bottle of this liquid I have should last me a lifetime now...
